Additional The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Standard Edition Information

The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a Wizarding classic, first came to Muggle readers’ attention in the book known as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  Now, thanks to Hermione Granger’s new translation from the ancient runes, we present this stunning edition with an introduction, notes, and illustrations by J. K. Rowling, and extensive commentary by Albus Dumbledore. Never before have Muggles been privy to these richly imaginative tales: “The Wizard and the Hopping Pot,” “The Fountain of Fair Fortune,” “The Warlock’s Hairy Heart,” “Babbitty Rabbitty and Her Cackling Stump,” and of course, “The Tale of the Three Brothers.” But not only are they the equal of fairy tales we now know and love, reading them gives new insight into the world of Harry Potter.

The stories are accompanied by delightful pen-and-ink illustrations by Ms. Rowling herself, featuring a still-life frontispiece for each one. Professor Dumbledore’s commentary—apparently written some eighteen months before his death—reveals not just his vast knowledge of Wizarding lore, but also more of his personal qualities:   his sense of humor, his courage, his pride in his abilities, and his hard-won wisdom. Names familiar from the Harry Potter novels sprinkle the pages, including Aberforth Dumbledore, Lucius Malfoy and his forebears, and Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington (or “Nearly Headless Nick”), as well as other professors at Hogwarts and the past owners of the Elder Wand. Dumbledore tells us of incidents unique to the Wizarding world, like hilariously troubled theatrical productions at Hogwarts or the dangers of having a “hairy heart.” But he also reveals aspects of the Wizarding world that his Muggle readers might find all too familiar, like censorship, intolerance, and questions about the deepest mysteries in life.

Altogether, this is an essential addition to our store of knowledge about the world and the magic that J. K. Rowling has created, and a book every true Harry Potter fan will want to have for their shelves.

This purchase also represents another very important form of giving: From every sale of this book, Scholastic will give its net proceeds to the CHILDREN'S HIGH LEVEL GROUP, a charity cofounded in 2005 by J.K. Rowling and Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, MEP.  CHLG campaigns to protect and promote children's rights and make life better for vulnerable young people.  www.chlg.org

Published by the Children's High Level Group, in association with Arthur A. Levine Books, THE TALES OF BEEDLE THE BARD will be available December 4, 2008.

What Customers Say About The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Standard Edition:

I never received this order, I contacted Amazon and was given a full refund.

It's a good, relaxing and entertaining read for all those that are fans of this amazing story. Obviously this is only a container for the actual book in its velvety pouch, but it does give a sense of occasion every time you open it.

On a closer inspection you can perceive some imperfections, but all in all, it's all very satisfying to own. The pouch is really good quality and the book itself looks really interesting with all the faux-metallic engravings and skulls.

For all those already familiar with the other two books outside the Harry Potter saga ("Imaginary Beasts & Where To Find Them" & "Quiditch: A History") the content of this book should be familiar. As soon as you lay hands on it you sense that it's something special, like those really old books you only see in major libraries or museums which makes it so much more interesting.

Of course to pay the asked price you need to be a fan, but all the same, I feel it is something that anyone would feel happy to own. Again there are scriblings of Hermione and the others, an introduction by Dumbledore, etc.

But the real gem is this collector's edition.

Was it meant to be a serious work of literature. It was kind of fun to read. Sometimes amusing fluff, but fluff nonetheless.Would I like this book if I had never read Harry Potter. There are 5 different stories, The Wizard and the Hopping Pot, The Fountain of Fortune, The Warlock's Hairy Heart, Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump, and The Tale of the Three Brothers.

I was very intrigued by the idea of this book. Again, probably not. Probably not. I remember the reference to The Tales of Beedle the Bard in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The rest of the book is supposed to be commentary by Albus Dumbledore, but it really just fluff. However, if you read the information about the Children's High Level Group and where the net proceeds of the book are going, it makes you feel good that you bought it.~Jenn It was revealed to us to be a storybook of children's `fairy tales' that wizarding families read to their children much as `muggle' families would read Hans Christian Anderson or the Brothers Grimm to their children.I have to admit I rather enjoyed the creativity involved in the tales. Very short, only 107 pages, but these are large-type double-spaced pages.

It seemed like it was just written as a lark, so its brevity was a bit disappointing. It was nice to get to dip into the Harry Potter universe a little bit, now that the series has ended.I would have liked to have read more; this book was short enough to be something of a tease. What might the young magical children in Harry Potter's world read before bed. Probably a selection from Beedle the Bard, teller of ancient fairy tales for the wizarding set. These stories are funny, as is the commentary by Dumbledore as he explains some of the history and possible meaning behind the stories.

Now, as for the book, it was a wonderful addendum to the Harry Potter series. The book actually arrived BEFORE they said it would and in excellent condition. It was lighthearted and fun. Let's see. I received excellent service.
